ANIMATED FILMS FROM GERMANY 2004
Workshop on the "Principles of Animation"
New Zealand AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (AUT)/Goethe Institute
23.10 2007-2.11.2007

Hannes Rall conducted a 3 day workshop on the principles of animation at the
Auckland University of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand.
This was wonderfully supported by the faculty of AUT, most notably John Piper,
who was co-teaching for the whole duration of the workshop.

About 15 surprisingly enthusiastic and attentive Digital Design students ”sacrificed“
their weekend to listen to the lectures about the basics of animation.
These lectures were combined with a lot of practical exercises, to immediately
apply the theoretical knowledge.

For many of them it was the firsr encounter with drawn animation, which in some
cases opened their minds to approach animation in new and different ways, when
using digital media only. At the end of the workshop, the final results were presented
in class in the form of line tests, which were created in a variety of programs.

Hannes Rall also took time to discuss some of the thesis projects of students in the masters program. He culdn´t help but to be impressed by the standatd of some of
the work, especially in the digital painting/compositing fields.
